    Using Hierarchical Data Mining to Characterize Performance of Wireless System Configurations

    This paper presents a statistical framework for assessing wireless systems performance using hierarchical data mining techniques. We consider WCDMA (wideband code division multiple access) systems with two-branch STTD (space time transmit diversity) and 1/2 rate convolutional coding (forward error correction codes). Monte Carlo simulation estimates the bit error probability (BEP) of the system across a wide range of signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). A performance database of simulation runs is collected over a targeted space of system configurations. This database is then mined to obtain regions of the configuration space that exhibit acceptable average performance. The shape of the mined regions illustrates the joint influence of configuration parameters on system performance. The role of data mining in this application is to provide explainable and statistically valid design conclusions. The research issue is to define statistically meaningful aggregation of data in a manner that permits efficient and effective data mining algorithms. We achieve a good compromise between these goals and help establish the applicability of data mining for characterizing wireless systems performance

    Meibomian Epithelioma of the Lower Eyelid in a Thoroughbred Horse

    A 9-year old, castrated male, thoroughbred horse presented for a left lower eyelid mass with ocular signs of mucopurulent discharge, conjunctival hyperemia and ocular discomfort. On physical examination, there was no other abnormality. Surgically, the mass arising from the inner surface of left lower eyelid was excised and examined histopathologically. Microscopically, the eyelid mass exhibited neoplastic basaloid cells forming irregular cell masses of variable size separated by thin fibrous tissues. The basaloid cells showed mildly pleomorphic and undifferentiated appearances with prominent oval nuclei and scant cytoplasm. Poorly differentiated meibocytes were observed occasionally in the periphery regions of the cell masses suggesting the mass of lower eyelid originated from meibomian glands. Based on histopathological observation, the present case was diagnosed as an equine meibomian epithelioma in the lower eyelid. To the authorā€™s knowledge, the present case is the first report of equine meibomian epithelioma in veterinary literatures

    BSML: A Binding Schema Markup Language for Data Interchange in Problem Solving Environments (PSEs)

    We describe a binding schema markup language (BSML) for describing data interchange between scientific codes. Such a facility is an important constituent of scientific problem solving environments (PSEs). BSML is designed to integrate with a PSE or application composition system that views model specification and execution as a problem of managing semistructured data. The data interchange problem is addressed by three techniques for processing semistructured data: validation, binding, and conversion. We present BSML and describe its application to a PSE for wireless communications system design

    A 32-Gb/s PAM4-Binary Bridge With Sampler Offset Cancellation for Memory Testing

    This brief presents a 32-Gb/s PAM4-Binary bridge for the next-generation memory testing. The bridge incorporates all the required functions to evaluate a high-speed PAM4 memory using a low-speed NRZ tester. The low-speed data transmitted from the NRZ tester to the bridge are converted into high-speed PAM4 data through half-rate clock control and forwarded to the memory, and vice-versa. The ground-terminated PAM4 driver provides the single-ended output by controlling the output current with a 2-tap feed-forward equalizer, achieving a ratio level mismatch (RLM) of 0.95. To minimize the offset at the PAM4 receiver, the offset cancellation circuit with an offset of 2.76mV consisting of a CTLE and sampling latches is employed, and the horizontal margin of the received PAM4 signal is 50% for BER<10(-9). An all-digital PLL integrated in the bridge doubles the 4-GHz WCK used as forwarded clock for the graphic memory. The count-based PAM4 eye-opening monitor is also proposed to find the optimal codes for the maximum eye opening using the PRBS7 data sequence. The bridge fabricated in the 40-nm CMOS technology occupies an active area of 1.6mm(2) and dissipates 132mW.N
